Background
A leading construction company was contracted to build a large-scale temporary residential development ahead of a major South East Queensland event.
The client required grass coverage for a large area surrounding transport and press parking precincts.
Vital Chemical was engaged to provide a revegetation solution to establish permanent grass, which would later be used as a park once the event concluded.
Challenge
The site was a large flat area surrounded by a steep batter to the east and a smaller batter to the west.
Due to recent earthworks, the soil was loose and consisted of leftover material with some topsoil missing. This soil moved easily with rain and drying, creating risk of erosion into the surrounding environment.
The delivery required the application to focus on the flat areas first, followed by the batters a few weeks later once the earthworks had been completed.
Solution
Vital Chemical recommended the application of VE Gro-Matt, a Bonded Fibre Matrix hydromulch designed for a broad range of applications, including revegetation projects.
Sustainably manufactured from Australian heat treated fibres, VE Gro-Matt delivers rapid seed germination to mitigate erosion whilst promoting a sustainable growth environment.
Vital Chemical was also able to deliver a tailored application method and custom seed spec as requested from the client.
Following the application, a weekend of rain provided sufficient moisture for the seed to sprout consistently across the site, and the application remained stable throughout the weather event without remobilising.
Result
The application of VE Gro-Matt provided a permanent, cost-effective solution in a single application at a significantly lower cost than traditional turf installation.
The product bound to the soil, delivering premium stabilisation and erosion control capabilities whilst growth established.
The work was completed more quickly than other methods, taking just two days and delivering operational efficiencies and cost savings to the project and client.
