Supporting Urban Delivery with Short-Term Surface Stabilisation

Background

As part of a South East Queensland urban development project, Vital Chemical was engaged to deliver a short-term erosion and dust control solution to reduce the risk of sediment mobilisation from the exposed site.

The region had strict council regulations in place that required the client to source an efficient and effective solution that supported the project’s environmental compliance criteria.

Challenge

The area is known for its highly dispersive soils that are prone to erosion when disturbed and become easily mobilised by rainfall or wind weather events. These conditions presented a serious challenge for the client, increasing the risk of sediment entering the local environment, business precincts and residential precincts.

The steep batter adjacent to the construction site added to this risk, with potential for the sediment to mobilise and impact the surrounding drainage system. Windborne dust particulates were an additional concern due to the proximity of the neighbouring communities.

The erosion and sediment control guidelines that had been developed by the local council recommended the application of soil binders to achieve effective surface stabilisation during construction.

Solution

Vital Chemical implemented an erosion and sediment control plan with the application of Vital Bon-Matt P47-VR1, a multi-purpose veneer designed for applications over surfaces where strength, durability and flexibility are required for shorter term stabilisation.

Curing within hours, Vital Chemical’s renowned polymer technology will not remobilise into the surrounding environment, remaining resistant to high windspeed and heavy rainfall.

Designed for non-trafficked areas, Vital Bon-Matt P47-VR1 is an inert and environmentally sound formulation offering cost-effective, instant and sustainable surface stabilisation for civil and mining broad acre, stockpile and residential developments.

Its environmentally sound, non-toxic formulation made it suitable for application near sensitive areas, including drainage networks, business precincts and residential spaces.

Result

The application of Vital Bon-Matt P47-VR1 met the expectations of both the client and the local council, delivering an efficient and cost-effective solution that ensured compliance with erosion and sediment control requirements.
