Biochar Infused Hydromulch Solution Restores Nutrient Depleted Soils on a Commercial Construction Project

Challenge

The site’s steep and exposed batter was highly visible to the nearby highway and surrounding communities, increasing sensitivity to erosion and dust risks.

There was also a key concern around dust pollution migrating from the construction site into neighbouring environments.

These challenges were made more challenging by extremely poor soil conditions, with the existing topsoil severely depleted of essential nutrients.

In addition, the revegetation solution needed to be suitable for large-scale application on a steep slope, with more than 17,000 square metres requiring application.

Result

The application of VE Organic-Matt achieved rapid and consistent coverage across the steep batter, establishing a dense and healthy grassed surface.

The product’s carbon-rich composition supported strong early plant growth, delivering effective initial stabilisation and significantly reducing the risk of erosion across the slope.

The solution also generated cost efficiencies for the project, delivering the product in one single pass eliminating the need for a separate application of imported top soil.
