Background
A Newcastle-based cement plant required an effective product to remove cement build-up and reduce rust on its cement tankers.
The client was seeking an alternative to their existing method, a diluted urea hydrochloric acid system, which they found neither safe nor effective and ultimately not cost-efficient.
The brief was to provide a solution that was both easy to apply and highly cost-effective.
Challenge
The cement plant was experiencing ongoing cement build-up and rust spots on the tanker bowls, which were not effectively removed by the current chemical treatment.
The required solution needed to break down cement build-up while eliminating the need to mix chemicals onsite, offering a safer alternative.
This would also reduce downtime and minimise risks to staff, as well as protect the tankers’ paintwork and signage.
Solution
Vital Chemical’s Flo-Chem Thick with Rust Guard, a low vapor emission, viscous, acid-based cleaner, was recommended for this cleaning application.
Designed to remove concrete residue and buildup, Vital Flo-Chem Thick with Rust Guard is widely used for the efficiently cleaning external concrete agitator barrel surfaces, cement mixers, front end loaders, concrete pumping equipment, shotcrete equipment and pneumatic tankers (fly ash).
The product was supplied in a 205 litre drum with a manual hand pump for safe and easy use.
One of Vital Chemical’s technical experts provided in-room product theory training, as well as a practical demonstration with all site staff.
Result
Vital Flo-Chem Thick with Rust Guard delivered reduced costs and improved safety for all onsite personnel by producing fewer vapours, while also providing anti-corrosion protection.
The product provided an environmentally sound and cost-effective alternative to the client’s previous method, significantly reducing the risk of run-off and splashing during concrete cleaning operations and minimising potential splash risks to the user.
The client noted a significant improvement in the cleanliness of the cement tanks and trucks, as well as the ease of application.
