The revitalisation of a previously degraded Canberra lakeside precinct demonstrates an effective approach to urban rehabilitation. The Challenge
The site presented several environmental challenges. Poor, low-nutrient soils combined with Canberra’s dry, cold autumn conditions meant traditional turfing methods were unable to be applied. The proximity to the lake increased the risk of sediment entering the waterway and affecting water quality. Additionally, local wildlife (particularly ducks) posed a persistent threat to young seedlings. A robust solution that aligned with environmental requirements was essential to support long-term establishment.
