A leading construction company was contracted to build a large-scale temporary residential development ahead of a major South East Queensland event.
The brief included a large grass area, requiring a custom seed specification, that would surround the transport parking precinct.
The construction site was a large flat area that was surrounded by two batters; one steep to the east and a smaller soil mound to the west.
Recent earthworks had loosened the soils across the site, increasing the risk of erosion. As the soil became mobile from rainfall then dried again, it developed into a dust pollution issue for the surrounding business precinct.
The application needed to be delivered in two stages to fit in with the site’s earthworks schedule; the first to address the flat area followed by a secondary application to the batter areas once works had been completed.
It was crucial the solution had the ability to stabilise the site whilst also providing the required vegetation.
Vital Chemical was engaged to provide a revegetation solution that met the project’s short-term growth requirements and would also deliver a more permanent solution to grass at the conclusion of the event when the site was transformed into a park.
Vital Chemical recommended the application of VE Gro-Matt, a Bonded Fibre Matrix hydromulch solution, sustainably manufactured from Australian head treated fibres.
Part of Vital Chemical’s industry leading range of revegetation products, VE Gro-Matt is specifically designed for a broad range of applications, including erosion control and revegetation projects.
VE Gro-Matt is designed to stabilise whilst establishing resilient vegetation, promoting a sustainable growth environment and encouraging the long-term development of viable, large area vegetation.
Vital deployed a team of specialist technicians and applicators to manage the turn-key application, conducting a thorough pre and post application assessment to ensure all project specifications were met.
Following the application, a weekend of rain was harnessed by the product’s unique moisture holding capacities, providing the ideal environment for the seed to sprout consistently across the site. The application remained stable throughout the rain fall and did not remobilise.
The application of VE Gro-Matt provided a cost-effective revegetation solution delivered in single pass applications across just two days.
At significantly lower cost than traditional turf installation, Vital Chemical’s hydromulch delivered further economical benefits through reduced watering requirements.
